Let us introduce to you Tim and Ruth who have gone above and beyond by faithfully serving at the Harvest Compassion Center Phoenix, as well as, creating homeless packs for our HCC guests. Tim, a retired military serviceman, started volunteering two years ago when he retired from the Pennsylvania State Police. After coming home and sharing with his wife Ruth the positive experiences volunteering at the HCC, she jumped on board this past summer and now the couple gets to serve weekly together. Ruth, who recently retired herself after 16 years working at AA and another 20 years as a dental assistant has found a new purpose in serving others. Newlyweds Tim and Ruth reside in the Phoenix area with their dog Ellie.
Tim, a former grocery store employee, puts his ‘creative packaging’ skills to wonderful use when he is asked to be a personal grocery shopper for HCC guests. Ruth enjoys serving in our clothing boutique and counts is such a joy to see HCC guests come in and receive excellent quality clothing for free. “One of the gals found a cute dress and shoes and she said she could now go out to dinner in style! So wonderful to see such great smiles on HCC guests when they leave with their treasures,” commented Ruth.
Tim feels blessed knowing that he is serving his Lord at the HCC, he enjoys the interaction with HCC guests and values being part of the HCC weekly team. “It’s such a rewarding experience, I’d be there every shift if they’d have me. It’s the satisfaction of being helpful to those in need and carrying their smiles in my heart long after they’ve gone home,” replied Tim.
“Volunteering together has also developed a new bond between us as a newly married couple. We are such a blessed people that we need to give back to the less fortunate. We just can’t overstate how much pleasure we achieve from volunteering at the HCC. It’s a first-class organization serving those in need and I’m blessed to be a part of it!” concluded Tim.
All of us at the HCC Phoenix want to extend our sincere thankfulness to Tim and Ruth for their hundreds of hours of service to the guests at the HCC. They have jumped in and helped wherever the HCC need is and gone above and beyond by providing can openers and other items to better serve our homeless guests. What a joy it is to serve weekly with such an amazing couple who share our same heart.
