2019-2020 Torch Award Recipient

Each academic school year Mitchell Swaback Charities, Inc. sponsors the Torch Award scholarship and honors two high schoolers enrolling in Harvest Christian Academy in Elgin, Illinois. This is the tenth year that the Torch Award has been distributed. “This award represents being a light to your classmates and your local community, just like Mitch was before he passed away. When asked, Mitch was the first to volunteer and help a friend and/or stranger, while continuing to show the love of Jesus. The Torch Award allows MSC to find amazing young men and women who show the same characteristics,” explained MSC Co-Founder Bob Swaback.

Applicants for this award submit a lengthy application and a written essay. In person interviews are also conducted and personal references contacted. This year MSC is proud to announce Seth Brooks as the 2019-2020 male Torch Award recipient! Next month MSC will highlight the female recipient, Lydia Camp.

“All of us at MSC are thrilled to congratulate Seth on this year’s honors. He blew us away with his work ethic, relentless pursuit of achieving his goals and his desire to show the love of Jesus to his community,” commented Nicolee Thompson, MSC Co-founder.

Seth, entering his junior year at HCA next fall, is from a family of six and is currently in his second year attending HCA. Seth participates in baseball, basketball and hopes to run cross country next year at HCA. Academically Seth is top notch, earning top grades all while working part time jobs. Seth has huge life goals for himself and plans to pursue an undergrad degree at either CCU, Liberty or Hillsdale then continuing on to study law at Vanderbilt or University of Chicago.

Seth is a driven young man who has leaned on his faith as he has waited patiently for doors to open that would allow him to attend HCA full-time. “Tears of joy filled my eyes when I found out I had won. I promise to continue to be a light to others at HCA next school year leading my Vine groups, mentoring younger athletes and being an example to my peers, living a life of purity,” commented Seth on winning this year’s award.

All of us at MSC would like to congratulate Seth on winning this year’s top Torch Award honors! We are confident that you will represent this honor well.
