What Is HCC Thankful For This Thanksgiving

This month we celebrate Thanksgiving. A time when many of us are finally able to rejoin family members and close friends we haven’t seen since the pandemic hit. A time we all can stop and reflect on all the blessings that we receive daily, yes, even during a pandemic. A time when we can meditate on the love and mission that is shared daily at HCC.

Today we remember one special family who came all the way from Burma (Myanmar) to Phoenix five years ago for a chance at life. Burma is located in the west portion of mainland Southeast Asia, which today is one of the poorest countries in the world. This country has experienced ongoing conflict and violence within the Muslim and Buddhist communities for the last 80 years! During the last spike in violence, Myo and his mom fled to the U.S. for a chance at a different life, one that didn’t involve a bloody civil war. Today we are so thankful to call Myo and his mom friends. Even though our language barriers are very real, and we often laugh more than communicate well, we are friends! We welcomed Myo and his mom into our HCC family, offered them a safe place to visit, to receive the food and hygiene items they need and school clothes for Myo. We get to pray with Myo and his mom. We watch as their English becomes stronger, a new job becomes a reality and Myo thrives in school.

One story. One family. The authentic impact of ONE! That’s what all of us at HCC are thankful for today!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
