Fourteen years ago this past August MSC, Inc. was created after the tragic loss in a drowning accident of a son, brother, cousin and friend, Mitch Swaback. Mitch was an all-in type of guy, always volunteering, always saying yes and always showing up. Strangers were attracted to Mitch from the moment they met him. Mitch wore his heart on his sleeve; everyone knew the real Mitch and his desire to include and love everyone. For the past 14 years MSC has taken our lead from Mitch by saying yes, by including everyone and showing up!
From MSC’s early days of rehabbing women’s and children’s shelters, to building an athletic center and orphanage there has never been a time that MSC wasn’t jumping in to help. Seven years ago, as a direct response to the recession and a desire to serve our neighbors MSC launched the Harvest Compassion Center. MSC aimed to create a one-stop shopping center where everyone was welcome, where clients heard yes more than no, and where dignity, compassion and the love of the Lord was displayed. Today, there are three Harvest Compassion Centers in Arizona. Over 100,000 individuals have been served with free groceries, clothing, hygiene, school, Christmas and household items, as well as Bibles and prayer. The small outreach that began by preserving a legacy of one 23-year-old has grown to an army of volunteers, community partners and friends who have decided to be all in and say yes! Yes, to feeding the hungry, yes to loving the poor, and yes to accepting strangers just the way they are. Our prayer is that MSC will continue to be blessed by the outpouring of support from others as an even greater impact is made.
